Greetings Professor Kriehn,

I'm struggling a bit with installing e17 on my F9 laptop. I believe I followed all your directions. It works if I log in as root. Entrance loads and I can log into the Enlightenment desktop.

However, when I try to log in as a regular user, it fails. One potential pitfall: I did not disable selinux. However, I would expect to see Enlightenment available in my normal user's in the regular kde launcher if that was the only problem.

When I try to start enlightenment by hand from my normal user, the error messages finish with:

Enlightenment cannot initialize its X connection.
Have you set your DISPLAY variable?
E17: Begin shutdown procedure!

I expect this is actually some sort of permissions problem, given that it does work seamlessly for root.

Gwen

SELinux is the problem. Entrance simply will not work with it without a hand crafted policy, which I have not had the time or motivation to create, especially since development on entrance has stagnated. I suggest sticking with GDM as your login manager. That way everything still works.

Dear Prof. Kriehn,

First, I have to say that I'm really grateful for all your Fedora 9 installation and config pages. And even I learned a lot with them, I'm still a Linux newbie... Currently I have a detail that I couldn't solve myself:

Two weeks ago (or so), YUM detected updates packages for enlightenment and I tried to proceed but it keeps complaining with this message:

Code:
Transaction Check Error:   file /usr/lib/enlightenment/modules/mixer/e-module-mixer.edj from install of enlightenment-0.16.999.050-1.fc9.i386 conflicts with file from package e_modules-mixer-0.0.1-10.20080717cvs.fc9.prof_k.i386
file /usr/lib/enlightenment/modules/mixer/module.desktop from install of enlightenment-0.16.999.050-1.fc9.i386 conflicts with file from package e_modules-mixer-0.0.1-10.20080717cvs.fc9.prof_k.i386

Before start uninstalling and messing around everything, I decided to check with you if is there any easy way to solve that.

Thank you in advance,

-Antonio
