HOWTO Setup the Mail Program alpine
alpine is a text-based e-mail program that we will be using to receive e-mail from the Grader Program as it mails you the results of your submitted homework. To launch the program, type:
Configuration of alpine
Once you hit Enter, the program will launch, and display a Welcome Screen, in addition to complaining about an "Incomplete Mail Domain". Type "E" to exit the screen, and to fix the mail domain problem, we need to configure it properly. Hit "S" for Setup, followed by "C" for Config. (You may have to wait 30 seconds or so before the program relinquished control over to you.) Hit the Down Arrow key once to highlight the following line:
User Domain = <No Value Set>
Hit Enter and type in the following:
Once you hit Enter, the line should now say:
User Domain = ezekiel.engr.csufresno.edu
Hit "E" for Exit Setup, and "Y" for Yes, which will then save the Configuration changes. alpine is now configured properly to send and receive e-mail.
To determine the list of e-mails that you have received, type "I" for Message Index from the Main Menu. This will bring up a list of e-mails that you have received (initially, you will not have any e-mails, so the screen will be blank). You can then use your Up and Down Arrow keys to select the e-mail message that you want to look at, and then Hit Enter to read it. Pressing "M" at any time will take you back to the Main Menu. To compose an e-mail, type "C" for Compose Message. At the bottom of the screen, you will then see other letters that you can type execute various commands. Spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with the program, since we will be using it extensively in class throughout the semester.
